Can I talk in the library?

Answer

You may talk quietly on the first floor of the library, including quiet phone calls. There are individual computer workstations and larger tables for more than one person to work together.

The second floor of the library is designated as a silent study place. If students are talking or working in groups, they may be asked to relocate to the first floor.

There are group study rooms on the second floor of the library. While sound may naturally travel, conversation at a reasonable level is expected in group study rooms.

The Paul Robeson Institute Resource Room (first floor) and Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (second floor) are designated as quiet study; students may talk quietly in these rooms.

Please get in touch with a reference librarian if there are groups being too loud, students talking on the second floor, or if there is any other noise issue. This is a high priority for the library staff.
