What do I read to know whether a scholarly article will help my research?

Answer

When looking for scholarly articles, you can read the abstract or summary to determine why the research was done and learn some basic information on the findings of the author(s). This will help you to decide if the scholarly article will provide information that is useful in answering your research question.

The abstract will usually be included with the article title in the initial results list of articles.  It is located at the beginning of the article and will either be labeled "abstract" or will be set apart from the rest of the article by a different font or margins.

If you choose to use the article, focus on the information included in the introduction, the discussion and the conclusion.
