Read an OPINION piece (op-ed, editorial or letter to the editor) from the NY Times, Wall Street Journal or The Atlantic.
Answer
On the RVCC Library page (https://library.raritanval.edu/home), click on Databases and then scroll down to Databases by Subject and choose News from the dropdown menu. From the list of databases, there are two options.
One great option is to set up your own NY Times account by clicking on New York Times Digital and following the steps to create your account.
To find an opinion piece in the NY Times, after you create your account you can go right to nytimes.com. In the menu below the title “New York Times,” you will see Opinion in the left center between Business and Tech.
You can also click Proquest Newsstand (US Newsstream) to access the country’s top papers, including the Wall Street Journal.
To target the opinion section in Proquest Newsstand, scroll down to the three dropdown menus at the bottom of the screen, and from the center one (Document Type), select Editorial. You can either type in a search or just click that box and hit search for the most recent editorials on all topics. To target a specific newspaper, type the title (like Wall Street Journal) into the first search bar and choose Publication Title—PUB from the dropdown menu next to it. You can still use the other search bar to search for a certain topic if you want.
The Atlantic can be accessed through Academic Search Premier. However, there is no good way to limit to only opinion pieces, so the other two publications may be a better bet. You can access this publication online by starting a free trial at https://www.theatlantic.com/, but it is hard to find opinion pieces there too!
